چکیده

This study quantifies the effect of low- to moderate-intensity anthropogenic activities and natural affecting less than 40% canopy cover on major plant functional traits associated soil microbial diversity in western Himalayan temperate forests. Plots 0.1 ha were placed forests along disturbance gradient categorized based lopping intensity, deadwood counts, grazing, litter removal. classified into three classes, i.e., low intensity (LDI) moderate intensities (MDI1 MDI2) cover. The was conducted related growth survival strategies a species complex forest ecosystem. Furthermore, DNA extracted metagenome samples performed using Illumina MiSeq platform from classes diversity. Tree basal area found be most significantly affected by intensity. Total density greater for LDI site. Specific leaf (SLA) crown (CC) moderately disturbed sites, whereas maximum height (HT) seed mass (SM) least disturbance. Soil negatively with index. Microbial biomass carbon (MBC) nitrogen (MBN) higher sites. Disturbance level elicited variation community composition. Proteobacteria abundant phylum Phenylobacterium , DA101 Candidatus solibacter mainly at genus level. A decreasing due absence human residences site led dominance (27%) which reduced 18% MDI1 Shannon alpha bacterial ( H ′) greatest MDI2 In varying levels management, treefall gaps logging might have similar those count (due disturbances) concludes that is important promoting richness (SR), but having conservative ecological would more prone continued Therefore, moderate-level such can used as model gaps, plays powerful role buffering ecosystem processes.

Soil Disturbance as a Grassland Restoration Measure—Effects on Plant Species Composition and Plant Functional Traits

Soil disturbance is recognized as an important driver of biodiversity in dry grasslands, and can therefore be implemented as a restoration measure. However, because community re-assembly following disturbance includes stochastic processes, a focus only on species richness or establishment success of particular species will not inform on how plant communities respond ecologically to disturbance....

Effects of Plant Diversity, Functional Group Composition, and Fertilization on Soil Microbial Properties in Experimental Grassland

BACKGROUND Loss of biodiversity and increased nutrient inputs are two of the most crucial anthropogenic factors driving ecosystem change. Although both received considerable attention in previous studies, information on their interactive effects on ecosystem functioning is scarce. In particular, little is known on how soil biota and their functions are affected by combined changes in plant dive...

Assessing log extraction related soil disturbance and solutions to protect soil and reduce disturbance of forest ecosystem.

Skid trails are the main routes for wood extraction and also the main source of runoff and sediment production in Forests. This research was conducted in Kuhmiyan forest of Golestan Province to determine infiltration, compaction, strength (resistance to penetration) and moisture content in three treatment including control (in the forest), wheel ruts and middle of skid trail were measured in th...

Plant diversity increases soil microbial activity and soil carbon storage.

Plant diversity strongly influences ecosystem functions and services, such as soil carbon storage. However, the mechanisms underlying the positive plant diversity effects on soil carbon storage are poorly understood. We explored this relationship using long-term data from a grassland biodiversity experiment (The Jena Experiment) and radiocarbon ((14)C) modelling. Here we show that higher plant ...
